The Decline of Textile Manufacturing in Aberdeen: The Broadford Works

The Broadford Works was a textile manufacturing powerhouse in Aberdeen, Scotland, which operated for nearly 200 years and at its peak employed over 2000 workers.

The site saw significant industrial action against its greedy owners and survived WWII bombing, but faced financial difficulties, culminating in its closure in 2004.

Despite plans for redevelopment of the site, the largest collection of A-listed buildings in Scotland, the historic buildings remain derelict, a stark reminder of a once-thriving industry.

This is my pen & watercolour interpretation of my own photo of the site.
