This is my pen & watercolour interpretation of a photo posted online by Helena Filipe. It’s quite a complex composition (for me at least) and outside my comfort zone, so I thought it would be a good one to paint to help develop my painting skills. The photo and my painting are shown here side-by-side.
I don’t know if Helena is the original photographer or if she got the photo elsewhere so, now that it’s done, my painting will be filed away under “Personal Development and Practice” to avoid any potential copyright issues.
The painting is approx 9″ x 4.5″ and, as usual, for the drawing I used a selection of UniPin fine line pens and for the painting it was Winsor & Newton professional quality watercolours. I used Arches 300gsm Hot Pressed paper for a change and most of the pen work was done prior to applying the watercolour although I went over some lines again at the end for effect.
