Carn Galver Tin Mine, Cornwall, England

This is my interpretation of a photo taken by Malcolm Osman and posted in the Facebook Group “Library of Artists Reference Photos”.

The historic engine houses of Carn Galver Mine are in an open country location between Pendeen and St Ives, in Cornwall, England.

First recorded in 1674, Carn Galver Tin Mine experienced several periods of operation and closure due to factors like ventilation issues, water shortages, and fluctuating tin prices.

Despite initial success and investments in new equipment, the mine faced financial difficulties and was eventually liquidated in 1873.

The site then saw sporadic activity until the National Trust took over in 1984, consolidating the old engine houses.

This is a nice scene of one of the engine houses at sunrise. I lived in Cornwall for five years during the 1990s so feel a close connection to the County and its heritage.

The painting is approximately 9” x 6” on good quality hot pressed watercolour paper using Winsor & Newton Professional Quality watercolours.
