This painting was started in 2008 but only finished in 2019 when I rediscovered it in our garage. It is based on long-lost reference photos which I found very moving at the time and still do. You have these massive ships deliberately beached, probably somewhere in Bangladesh, to be broken up for scrap value by manual labour. Health & safety and the environmental impact clearly aren’t a consideration and I suspect that the wages are pretty poor.
This probably isn’t the sort of image that most folk would want hanging on their wall but I think it’s a powerful and moving image and enjoyed painting it.
