Slains Castle

This is my original 10x15cm pen and watercolour sketch of the remains of Slains Castle on the Aberdeenshire coast in Scotland, presented in a black 17x22cm frame, which is on Ebay until 07.06.20.

The original castle was built in 1597 and was reconstructed many times over the years. However, in 1919 Slains was sold after the owners fell on hard times. Unfortunately the new owner removed the roof in 1925 to avoid paying taxes on the property and the remains you see now are the inevitable result.

During its better days in the 19th century the Castle was a place where celebrities were often entertained, including Bram Stoker who used the castle as the inspiration for the setting of his Count Dracula tales.
